Tal Mazliach: War Decorations, opening at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, 19.09.24

Alon Segev Gallery is proud to announce Tal Mazliach’s solo exhibition, War Decorations, opening at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. Curated by Amit Shemma.

To mark one year since the events of October 7th, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art presents an exhibition by Tal Mazliach, laureate of the 2009 Rappaport Prize for an Established Israeli Artist. The exhibition centers on a new series of paintings titled War Decorations 23–24.

Using her distinctive colorful and compact style, Mazliach depicts her harrowing experiences from October 7th, when she was besieged for over 20 hours at her home in Kibbutz Kfar Aza before being rescued by the IDF Shaldag Unit.

Born in Kfar Aza, Mazliach has been confronting the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and its existential threats for over 25 years. A sense of constant restlessness imbues these complex paintings, characterized by short brushstrokes that create repetitive rhythms. Mazliach embeds words like “Rescued,” sentences such as “They are surrounding me from all sides,” and short stories into her work, repeating them like chilling mantras. These elements merge into a lexicon of images, combining self-portraits, weapons, and hands in a layered, emotive, and pictorial world.
